Original JUDAS PRIEST Singer Says 'Dawn Of The Metal Gods' Book Is 'A Real Labor Of Love'
February 25, 2009Original JUDAS PRIEST singer Al Atkins recently spoke to Express & Star about his forthcoming autobiography, titled "Dawn of the Metal Gods: My Life in Judas Priest and Heavy Metal". The book, which was was written with Neil Daniels — a freelance rock writer and heavy metal fan who befriended Atkins during the writing of Neil's book "The Story of Judas Priest: Defenders of the Faith" (Omnibus Press) — will be released this spring via Iron Pages.
Atkins said: "I have been working on the book for several years and it has been a real labor of love. It is part autobiography, but also about the whole scene in the late '60s and early '70s. It was a fantastic time to grow up in, when music was developing at lightening fast speed and there were scores of venues where you could go to see live music."
It was while working at a motorbike garage that he got friendly with Robert Plant, who has contributed a photograph to the book and wished his old pal all the best with its success.
"That was in around 1968 I was in band called THE BITTA SWEET and Robert was in THE BAND OF JOY, before his LED ZEPPELIN days," said Atkins.
